Eloping in Homer, Alaska | Amber & Ben’s Stunning 4th of July Elopement

If you’re looking for a breathtaking, adventurous, and intimate place to elope, Homer, Alaska should be at the top of your list. Known as the “End of the Road”, Homer is a coastal gem that combines towering mountains, dramatic ocean views, wildflower-filled meadows, and endless open spaces—making it a perfect place for couples who want to escape the traditional big wedding and celebrate their love in a way that feels truly personal and unforgettable.

While some couples opt for a traditional venue in Homer (see our guide to the Best Wedding Venues in Homer if that’s what you’re looking for!), others, like Amber & Ben, choose to elope and focus on what matters most—each other, adventure, and a day that’s stress-free and meaningful.

Let’s dive into their incredible 4th of July elopement in Homer and why eloping here might be the best decision you ever make.

Amber & Ben’s Elopement in Homer, Alaska

Amber & Ben’s story is classic Alaska—full of adventure, love for the outdoors, and a deep connection to the wild beauty of the Last Frontier. Amber moved to Alaska in 2016 as a travel nurse, and Ben arrived in 2018, stationed at JBER with the Air Force. Like many couples today, they met online, quickly realizing they had a ton in common—they both love hiking, hunting, camping, and, of course, fishing.

Amber fell for Ben’s sense of humor and strong work ethic, while Ben was captivated by Amber’s stunning beauty and adventurous spirit—she was always up for any Alaskan adventure.

When it came time to plan their wedding, there was no question where they’d elope—Homer. “It wasn’t even a conversation,” they said. Homer’s mountains are just different—more dramatic, more captivating than Anchorage. It was a place they had camped, explored, and loved together. And with family flying in from out of state, they wanted to show off one of the most beautiful places in Alaska.

The Elopement Day Timeline

📍 Getting Ready at Baycrest Lodge
Amber & Ben started their day at the stunning Baycrest Lodge, a gorgeous cabin rental with sweeping views of Kachemak Bay.

🛁 The lodge was the perfect basecamp—not only did it have an incredible backdrop, but also a hot tub and multiple rooms for their close friends and family to stay.

📍 Ceremony on the Beach
Amber & Ben’s intimate beach ceremony took place at Bishop’s Beach, a quick drive down from the lodge. They walked a short way from the main area to find a quiet, private spot just for them.

💍 Their close friend officiated the ceremony, which made it even more meaningful. With only six guests due to COVID restrictions, their elopement was small, intimate, and perfect—allowing them to spend quality time with the people who mattered most.

🌊 The ocean waves, the rugged coastline, and the dramatic backdrop of Kachemak Bay created a cinematic setting for their vows.

📍 Bridal Portrait Adventure
After the ceremony and family photos, we broke away for bridal portraits—and in Homer, the options are endless.

🚙 First, we explored the driftwood-covered beaches, capturing relaxed, romantic photos of Amber & Ben with the waves behind them.

⛰ Next, we drove up East Hill Road to Skyline Drive Overlook for incredible panoramic shots of the bay, the glaciers, and the endless mountain ranges.

🎥 Secret local spots (not found on Google!): We also hit a few hidden gems known only to local photographers & videographers—because if you’re eloping in Homer, you want photos that no one else has! But… if I posted those locations here, they wouldn’t be secret anymore. 😉 If you want to find the absolute best, untouched spots for your elopement portraits, you’ll just have to work with us!

🚣‍♂️ Bridge Creek Reservoir Surprise: At Bridge Creek Reservoir, we stumbled upon a couple who had just finished canoeing. Spontaneously, we asked if Amber & Ben could take a spin, and they were thrilled to gift the newlyweds a quick canoe ride! The result? Epic drone footage of them paddling together, with the golden Alaskan sun glistening on the water.

💜 Wildflowers in Bloom: Because it was early July, the Lupine flowers were everywhere—adding pops of color to their portraits.
